98-Year-Old Woman in Moga Receives Cashless Cancer Treatment Under Punjab Health Scheme
In a heartening development from Punjab, a 98-year-old woman from Moga is receiving comprehensive cashless cancer care under the state's Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna. Mukhtiar Kaur, identified as one of the oldest beneficiaries of this flagship health scheme, has undergone specialised treatment, including chemotherapy-related care, fully covered by her Sehat Card.
Advanced Treatment and Supportive Care Provided
The treatment regimen for Mukhtiar Kaur involved advanced medication and supportive therapy as part of a carefully managed chemotherapy plan. This required close monitoring and timely medical interventions to ensure her well-being throughout the process. The scheme's coverage has enabled access to these critical healthcare services without imposing any financial strain on her family.
Health Minister Highlights Scheme's Impact on Elderly Care
Punjab's Health Minister, Dr. Balbir Singh, emphasised the significance of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna in supporting elderly patients. "The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna is ensuring that elderly patients receive timely and necessary medical care without financial hardship, while preserving their dignity," he stated. "Access to treatment at this stage of life is critical, and the scheme is empowering families to provide that care with confidence."
Comprehensive Coverage and Widespread Implementation
The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna offers robust health coverage, providing up to ₹10 lakh per family annually on a cashless basis. This allows beneficiaries to seek treatment at a network of empanelled government and private hospitals across Punjab. Key features of the scheme include:
- Over 9 lakh Sehat Cards have been issued to eligible families.
- Treatment is accessible at nearly 900 empanelled hospitals statewide.
- More than 2,300 medical packages cover a wide range of procedures, from routine check-ups to complex treatments like cancer care.
This initiative underscores Punjab's commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, by removing financial barriers and ensuring quality medical support.
