AIIMS Mangalagiri to Receive Additional 10 Acres for Advanced Trauma Care Expansion
In a significant development for healthcare infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh, Health Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav has reaffirmed the state government's commitment to allocate an additional 10 acres of land to AIIMS Mangalagiri. This allocation, originally promised by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, aims to facilitate the expansion of advanced trauma and emergency care services at the premier medical institute. Minister Yadav assured that the land allocation would be processed at the earliest to bolster the hospital's capabilities.
8th Foundation Day Celebrations Highlight Growth and Compassion in Medicine
Participating as the chief guest at the 8th foundation day celebrations of AIIMS Mangalagiri held on Saturday, Minister Yadav reflected on the remarkable growth of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences network across the country. He noted that while India had only one AIIMS for several decades, today a total of 26 AIIMS institutions are providing high-quality medical services to citizens nationwide. At the outset of the programme, Yadav offered crucial advice to young doctors, urging them to treat patients with compassion and empathy. He emphasised that these qualities, along with a service-oriented mindset, form the foundational pillars of the noble medical profession.
Distinguished Guests Praise Institute's Rapid Development
The foundation day event saw participation from eminent medical professionals, including Padma Shri Dr Nalinin Parthasarathi, former paediatrics professor of JIPMER, who attended as a special guest. Dr Parthasarathi expressed her delight at witnessing the remarkable growth of AIIMS Mangalagiri within a short span of eight years. She particularly appreciated the faculty for their unwavering commitment to nurturing students and strengthening the institute's academic and clinical foundations.
Impressive Patient Care Statistics and Medical Achievements
Addressing the gathering, Professor Dr Ahanthem Santa Singh, Director of AIIMS Mangalagiri, presented comprehensive data highlighting the institute's substantial contributions to healthcare. Up to January 20, the institute has provided:
- Over 31.01 lakh outpatient consultations
- Treatment for 69,741 inpatients
- 23,840 surgical procedures, including 16,751 major and 7,100 minor surgeries
- 56.24 lakh laboratory investigations
- 729 cardiac procedures in its Cath Lab
A particularly noteworthy milestone was the successful conduct of 19 kidney transplantations, comprising 14 live-related and five deceased donor transplants, showcasing the institute's advanced capabilities in organ transplantation.
Expansion of Advanced Medical Services and Academic Programmes
Director Singh further elaborated on the institute's enhanced patient care services, which now include:
- Advanced cardiac interventions
- Comprehensive organ transplantation services
- Robotic and high-end surgical procedures
- Strengthened critical care units
- Expanded diagnostic facilities
On the academic front, Singh highlighted that over 1,400 students are currently pursuing diverse academic programmes at AIIMS Mangalagiri, reflecting the institute's rapid expansion in medical education and training. This growth underscores its evolving role as a hub for both clinical excellence and academic advancement in the region.
