AMC & IOCL Sign 2 Key CSR MoUs for Eye Care & Medical Equipment in Ahmedabad
AMC, IOCL Sign MoUs for Eye Centre & Hospital Equipment

In a significant move for public healthcare, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) formalised a partnership through two corporate social responsibility (CSR) agreements on Wednesday. The memorandums of understanding (MoUs) are aimed at enhancing specialised medical facilities in the city, focusing on advanced eye care and critical diagnostic equipment.

Centre of Excellence for Vision Therapy at Nagri Hospital

The first and major project involves establishing a 'Centre of Excellence for Vision Therapy and Low Vision Therapy' at the civic-run Nagri Eye Hospital. This centre is designed to be a comprehensive hub addressing specific vision challenges. It will provide affordable, advanced vision therapy primarily for children suffering from binocular vision disorders, which affect how the eyes work together.

Beyond paediatric care, the facility will also offer complete low vision rehabilitation services for individuals with partial sight, helping them maximise their remaining vision for daily activities. The centre's scope extends beyond direct patient care to include training, research, and skill development opportunities, potentially making it a regional resource for ophthalmology professionals.

Advanced Medical Equipment for LG Hospital

The second CSR initiative under these MoUs provides financial assistance to LG Hospital for the procurement of a pleuroscope. This specialised medical instrument is crucial for the accurate diagnosis and treatment of pleural diseases, which affect the lining of the lungs.

The use of a pleuroscope allows doctors to perform minimally invasive procedures, leading to more precise interventions, reduced patient discomfort, and faster recovery times. A key component of this project is its focus on capacity building; the equipment will also be utilised to train doctors, specialists, and medical students, thereby enhancing local expertise in pulmonary medicine.

Impact and Future Implications

The collaboration between AMC and IOCL marks a proactive step in leveraging corporate social responsibility funds for tangible public health infrastructure. These projects, signed on Wednesday, directly address gaps in specialised care. The vision centre promises to make advanced therapies accessible, while the pleuroscope will upgrade diagnostic capabilities at a major public hospital.

This partnership model highlights how public-corporate alliances can effectively channel resources into critical healthcare sectors, ultimately aiming to improve treatment outcomes and build long-term medical expertise within Ahmedabad's public health system.
