The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has drafted a national policy framework to address emerging health challenges, aligning with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. The agenda focuses on creating self-reliant health technologies, generating evidence specific to Indian conditions, and ensuring preparedness for emerging threats.
Key Objectives of the Framework
The framework aims to reduce dependence on imported medical technologies and promote indigenous innovation. It emphasizes the need for research tailored to India's unique disease burden and demographic profile.
According to a senior health ministry official, the policy will leverage institutions like the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), National Health Mission, and National Health Authority to drive implementation.
Alignment with Viksit Bharat 2047
The initiative is part of the broader Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, which seeks to transform India into a developed nation by its centenary of independence. The health policy framework is expected to contribute to this goal by strengthening healthcare infrastructure and technology.
The draft policy also outlines measures for pandemic preparedness and response, drawing lessons from the COVID-19 experience.
Stakeholder Consultation
The ministry has circulated the draft for stakeholder feedback, including state governments, healthcare experts, and industry bodies. A final version is expected after incorporating inputs.
"This framework will be a cornerstone for India's healthcare revolution," said an official familiar with the development.
