Governor Advocates for Prenatal Wellness Center at Lucknow Medical Institute
In a significant development for maternal and child healthcare in Uttar Pradesh, Governor Anandiben Patel has proposed the establishment of a specialized 'Garbha Sanskar' center at the Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) in Lucknow. The suggestion was made during the foundation stone laying ceremony for a new 510-bed shelter home on the institute's RPG campus located on Shaheed Path.
Emphasis on Maternal Influence and Structured Guidance
Governor Patel emphasized that a mother's diet, thoughts, and environment during pregnancy directly influence the development of the unborn child. She stressed the importance of providing pregnant women with structured counseling, proper educational literature, and comprehensive guidance on nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices throughout their pregnancy journey.
"It can be provided by experts here for the well-being of children and women," she stated, highlighting the potential of the proposed center to offer specialized prenatal care through qualified professionals.
New Shelter Facility and Diagnostic Upgrades
During the same event, Governor Patel inaugurated upgraded CT scan, ultrasound, and X-ray facilities at the radiology diagnostic block of RMLIMS. She noted that the new shelter home would provide much-needed relief to families traveling from distant districts for medical treatment at the institute.
The Governor directed officials to establish clear rules ensuring priority access for poor and middle-class attendants at the shelter facility. She emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness and discipline, stating that rooms should be left in the same condition they were provided and that outside food entry should be regulated to ensure patients adhere to prescribed diet plans.
"Clean surroundings and rule compliance help in faster recovery," she remarked, adding that true service to society reflects genuine devotion.
Infrastructure Development and Future Plans
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak provided details about the ongoing construction projects at the medical institute. The shelter home building is being constructed at a cost of Rs 24.86 crore and will include:
- 45 rooms with 90 beds
- Dormitories with 420 beds
- A fully equipped kitchen and dining hall
- Laundry facilities
- Two elevators for accessibility
Pathak highlighted that previously, patients had to travel to different locations for essential diagnostic investigations, but now comprehensive diagnosis and treatment would be available at a single facility.
The Deputy Chief Minister also revealed additional development plans for the Shaheed Path campus:
- A 1,000-bed broad specialty hospital has been approved
- A 100-bed critical care block is currently under construction
- Hostels with 888 rooms are being developed
- A sports complex and nursing college are also in the pipeline
These infrastructure developments represent a significant expansion of healthcare services in Lucknow and reflect the government's commitment to improving medical facilities for residents across Uttar Pradesh.
