Guntur Medical College Revives Mega Scientific Expo After Three Decades
In a landmark initiative for medical education and public outreach, Guntur Medical College (GMC) is preparing to host a comprehensive scientific and medical exhibition, marking the first such event in nearly 30 years. This state-level expo, scheduled to commence on February 3, represents a significant academic endeavor by the premier institution, aimed at fostering health awareness among both the general public and college students.
Ministerial Inauguration and Exhibition Details
Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav will formally inaugurate the exhibition, which was initially planned to span a fortnight. The event will showcase approximately 350 scientific and medical exhibits, meticulously displayed by nearly 35 departments of the college. To ensure the exhibition's success on a massive scale, the government has granted permission to utilize about Rs 2 crore from the College Development Society (CDS) funds.
Educational Focus and Public Engagement
Dr. NV Sundara Chary, Principal of Guntur Medical College, emphasized that the exhibition has been carefully designed to explain the constitution of the human body, organ functioning, and disease prevention in a simple and engaging manner. This approach aims to improve overall health awareness and bridge the gap between medical science and the community. Dr. Chary highlighted, "This is a rare opportunity to reconnect medical science with the public. The exhibition is intended not only for students but also for the general public to better understand health and the human body."
Logistical Arrangements and Visitor Management
To manage the anticipated high turnout, the college has implemented several logistical measures. A nominal entry fee will be charged from students visiting the expo to recover part of the expenditure, with entry tickets issued online to ensure transparency. Additionally, visitor numbers will be regulated to about 3,000 per day, allowing sufficient time for exploration. Dr. Chary explained, "It will take at least 6 hours to go through all the stalls and exhibits comfortably. Hence, we decided to regulate the number of visitors per day."
Historical Context and Future Prospects
Dr. Sundara Chary recalled that GMC last organized a state-level science and medical expo in 1996, making this revival a momentous occasion after a three-decade hiatus. Depending on public response, the duration of the exhibition could be extended by another fortnight. The principal expressed hope that the expo will rekindle scientific curiosity, promote preventive healthcare awareness, and strengthen the bond between medical institutions and society.

Faculty members and students have dedicated months to developing interactive models, charts, and demonstrations covering a wide range of topics, including:
