Himachal CM Sukhu Inaugurates Rs 23 Crore Tesla MRI Machines at IGMC Shimla

In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated three cutting-edge Tesla MRI diagnostic machines at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla on Friday. The advanced equipment, valued at approximately Rs 23 crore, replaces a nearly two-decade-old MRI machine, bringing technology on par with premier institutions like the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

Modernising Healthcare Across the State

Addressing the gathering, CM Sukhu emphasised the state government's unwavering commitment to upgrading medical facilities. He highlighted that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to ensure residents have access to advanced diagnostic services without needing to travel outside Himachal Pradesh, thereby saving both time and money for patients.

The new Tesla MRI machines are expected to significantly enhance diagnostic accuracy and efficiency, catering to a wide range of medical conditions. Sukhu announced that similar high-end medical technologies are being rolled out in government medical colleges at Tanda, Shimla, Hamirpur, Nerchowk, and the upcoming facility at Chamiyana in Shimla.

Future Plans for Healthcare Excellence

During his visit, the Chief Minister interacted with medical specialists and outlined ambitious plans for further improvements. Key initiatives include:

  • Upgrading IGMC's orthopaedics department to world-class standards.
  • Introducing robotic orthopaedic and spine surgeries.
  • Establishing advanced Intensive Care Units (ICUs) for medicine, paediatrics, and respiratory diseases.
  • Organising exposure visits for specialists to top medical institutions in India and abroad to foster skill development.

Sukhu also reviewed ongoing development works at IGMC, directing officials to ensure timely completion to avoid delays in healthcare delivery.

Criticism of Previous Administration and Financial Commitment

In a pointed critique, CM Sukhu blamed the previous BJP-led government for neglecting financial management and healthcare infrastructure, which he said hampered progress in the sector. Contrasting this, he stated that the current administration is investing over Rs 3,000 crore to strengthen health services statewide, underscoring a renewed focus on public welfare and medical advancements.

This inauguration marks a pivotal step in Himachal Pradesh's journey toward a more robust and accessible healthcare system, aligning with global standards and improving patient outcomes across the region.
