According to sources, the woman was undergoing an x-ray procedure when she noticed a man recording her on his mobile phone. She immediately raised an alarm, prompting her relatives to confront him. When he was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation, his phone was checked, revealing additional videos of a similar nature.
Dr. Dipika Singhal, the hospital's medical superintendent, described the incident as "shameful." She identified the man as a driver attached to the community medicine department of GMERS Medical College. "We have already asked the college dean to take strict action against him. He is a long-serving employee, and there are no prior complaints against him," Dr. Singhal stated.
Hospital and Police Response
Dr. Singhal confirmed that both the hospital police desk and the 181 Abhayam helpline were informed about the incident. However, the patient's relatives chose not to press charges, leading to a private settlement. "There already are security measures in place. But we will ensure that such an incident does not happen again with stricter standard operating procedures for access to such areas for both staffers and persons accompanying patients," she added. Dr. Singhal also noted that she had no details about the other videos found on the phone.
Inspector K N Bhukan of Sola police verified that neither the Sola Civil Hospital authorities nor any victims had filed a formal complaint in the case.
