JSS Academy's 'Art for Smiles' Exhibition Supports Paediatric Patients

JSS Academy and Hospital Launch 'Art for Smiles' Exhibition to Enhance Paediatric Well-being

In a heartwarming initiative blending creativity with healthcare, the JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSS AHER), in collaboration with JSS Hospital, organised an inclusive art exhibition titled 'Art for Smiles'. This event was dedicated to nurturing creativity in paediatric care and providing meaningful engagement for young patients undergoing treatment.

Dignitaries Inaugurate and Praise the Holistic Approach

The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr H Basavanagowdappa, the vice-chancellor of JSS AHER. The ceremony was attended by Mahesh R, director of medical education at JSS Mahavidyapeetha (JSS MVP), and Dr Madhu CP, director of JSS Hospital. The dignitaries commended the initiative for its innovative fusion of art and healthcare, emphasising the critical role of holistic healing in improving the emotional well-being of children.

Visionary Leadership Behind the Event

The event was initiated and organised by Dr Varsha Tandure, an associate professor in the department of medicine, and Dr Megha Sadashiv, a senior resident in the department of psychiatry. Their vision was to create a platform where art could serve as a powerful medium of hope and positivity, offering solace and inspiration to paediatric patients during their medical journeys.

Fundraising and Community Support

Visitors to the exhibition were invited to explore and purchase original artworks created by medical students. The proceeds were strategically allocated: 50% supported the participating artists, while the remaining 50% was dedicated to providing art kits for paediatric patients at JSS Hospital. This dual-purpose approach not only encouraged artistic expression but also directly contributed to the well-being of young patients.

Enthusiastic Participation and Volunteer Efforts

The programme received robust support from volunteers of the JSS Kalakriti Club, who played a key role in its execution. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from doctors, faculty members, and medical students, reflecting a shared commitment to compassionate and community-oriented healthcare. Their active involvement underscored the collective effort to integrate art into the healing process, fostering a supportive environment for all involved.
