Ghaziabad's Khoda Welcomes First Government Polyclinic to Serve 10 Lakh People
In a landmark development for Khoda, a government polyclinic-cum-primary health centre was inaugurated on Thursday by cabinet minister Sunil Sharma. This facility, managed by the Ghaziabad health department, is poised to cater to nearly 10 lakh residents, marking a significant upgrade in local healthcare infrastructure.
Upgraded Facility with Comprehensive Services
Constructed at a cost of Rs 4 crore, the polyclinic has been transformed from its previous role as an urban primary health centre, which offered only limited outpatient services and basic care. Now, it provides a wide range of medical services designed to meet diverse community needs.
The upgraded centre will offer:
- OPD and IPD care for general medical consultations and inpatient treatment.
- Diagnostic tests and TB screening to aid in early disease detection.
- ECG services for cardiac health monitoring.
- Health ATM-based eye and ear check-ups, utilizing AI-powered self-service kiosks for rapid screenings and basic consultations.
- Maternal and child health care, including vaccinations, gynaecological services, and childbirth support.
- Rabies treatment for dog bites, addressing urgent public health concerns.
Easing Burden on District Hospitals
Officials highlight that this new facility is expected to significantly reduce the strain on government hospitals in Ghaziabad district. Previously, residents from Khoda and nearby areas had to travel to MMG Hospital or the government hospital in Sanjay Nagar for even basic treatments, often facing delays and inconvenience.
Ghaziabad’s deputy CMO, RK Gupta, emphasized the impact: "With this new facility, a large number of residents will get timely medical attention closer to their homes. At present, the centre will start operations with 10 beds, but once it receives formal approval from the state government, the capacity will be expanded."
Future Expansion Plans
Plans are already underway to further enhance the polyclinic's services. Proposed additions include blood cancer screening and the inclusion of specialists such as paediatric and maternal health experts. This expansion aims to provide more specialized care and improve overall health outcomes for the community.
The inauguration of this polyclinic represents a critical step forward in strengthening Ghaziabad's public health system, offering accessible and comprehensive medical services to a vast population.
