Madurai's New Dialysis Centre Inaugurated by Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan
Madurai witnessed a significant boost to its healthcare infrastructure as Minister for Information Technology Palanivel Thiagarajan inaugurated a new dialysis treatment centre at the Ansari Nagar Urban Primary Health Centre on Thursday. The facility, established at a cost of Rs 77 lakh, aims to address the growing need for renal care in the region.
State-of-the-Art Facilities and Infrastructure
The centre is equipped with comprehensive amenities designed to ensure efficient and hygienic operations. Key features include:
- A ground-level water storage tank with a capacity of 25,000 litres
- An RO plant facility for purified water supply
- Two air-conditioned dialysis rooms for patient comfort
- An underground sewage pipeline system
- Generator facilities to ensure uninterrupted power supply
- Dedicated rooms for registration, storage, staff, materials safety, and biomedical waste management
Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives
In a notable collaboration, HDFC and HCL have committed to providing 10 dialysis machines under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) schemes, with a total investment of Rs 75 lakh. Currently, two machines have been installed, and once all are operational, the centre will have the capacity to treat up to 20 patients daily.
Affordable and Accessible Treatment
The centre will offer treatment free of cost for patients holding the chief minister's insurance card, while others will be charged a nominal fee of Rs 375 per session. Tanker Foundation has been entrusted with the operation of the facility, ensuring professional management.
Preparatory Measures and Inauguration
Prior to the centre's establishment, the city corporation conducted a survey to identify patients with renal problems, ensuring targeted service delivery. The inauguration event was attended by key officials, including Corporation Commissioner Chithra Vijayan, Deputy Mayor T Nagarajan, and GRH Dean Dr Arul Sundaresh Kumar, highlighting the collective effort behind this healthcare initiative.
This new dialysis centre represents a crucial step in enhancing medical services in Madurai, providing much-needed support to individuals with kidney-related ailments through modern infrastructure and affordable care options.
