Maharashtra State Budget Greenlights Major Healthcare Infrastructure Projects in Beed
The Maharashtra state budget, presented on Friday, has given official approval for a substantial expansion of healthcare infrastructure in the Beed district. This significant allocation includes the construction of a brand-new 360-bed hospital facility, a dedicated nursing college, and a hostel specifically for medical staff. All these new developments are planned as part of a comprehensive expansion of the existing Civil Hospital located in Beed.
Historic Rural Medical College Set for Modernization
In a parallel move, the budget has also cleared the necessary financial provisions for a complete master plan to modernize the Swami Ramanand Teerth Rural Medical College (SRTRMC) in Ambajogai. Established back in 1975, SRTRMC holds the prestigious historical distinction of being the very first rural medical college established anywhere in India.
The proposed development plan for this landmark institution is extensive. It will feature the construction of a new super-specialty building designed to significantly upgrade and enhance its current medical departments. Key areas slated for improvement include the existing medicine units, pediatric care facilities, and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), ensuring the college can provide advanced medical education and care.
Political Leadership and Vision Behind the Initiative
Vinod Muluk, who serves as the vice-president of the Beed Municipal Council, publicly credited the late deputy chief minister and guardian minister, Ajit Pawar, with being the driving force behind this ambitious healthcare initiative. Muluk emphasized that developing the health sector in Beed has been a longstanding priority for Pawar.
"Developing the health sector in Beed has been a priority for Ajit Dada," Muluk stated. "This newly approved budget provides the essential financial backbone required to finally fulfill the long-held vision of providing state-of-the-art medical facilities to our rural population across the region."
This budgetary approval follows a critical high-level meeting that was chaired by Ajit Pawar in August of last year. During that meeting, Pawar had issued clear directives to the concerned authorities, instructing them to transform the Ambajogai institution into a model government medical facility. He had assured officials that financial resources would not be a limiting constraint for the historic college's crucial capacity-building and expansion efforts.
Beed District Added to Prestigious Development Program
The state budget also delivered significant news for broader regional development within Maharashtra. Beed district has been officially included in the state's targeted "aspirational districts and blocks" programme. This initiative is designed to fast-track socio-economic growth through concentrated administrative support and focused financial interventions in key development indicators.
Beed is not alone in this inclusion. It is joined by three other districts from the Marathwada region—Jalna, Hingoli, and Parbhani—as well as the districts of Palghar and Dhule. With these new additions, the total number of districts under this targeted development scheme now rises to ten. They will join the existing list, which includes Dharashiv, Nandurbar, Washim, and Gadchiroli, in receiving prioritized support for accelerated growth and improvement.
