In a significant move to bolster healthcare infrastructure, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has directed the immediate release of a substantial fund of Rs 68.98 crore. This financial injection is earmarked for a comprehensive facelift of the state's premier medical colleges and institutes.
Major Boost for Healthcare Infrastructure
The decision was announced following a high-level review meeting of the Medical Education and Research Department, which was chaired by the Chief Minister himself. CM Bhagwant Mann emphasized that enhancing facilities in these key institutions is an urgent priority to ensure the people of Punjab receive quality treatment and advanced diagnostic services close to home.
He stated that equipping these colleges with high-end, world-class machinery is not just an upgrade but an imperative step. The ultimate goal is to enable these institutions to serve patients more effectively and efficiently, reducing the need for residents to seek specialized care outside the state.
Detailed Fund Allocation for Four Institutes
The Chief Minister has instructed the Medical Education Department to disburse the funds without delay. The total corpus of Rs 68.98 crore will be distributed among four major medical institutions across Punjab. The detailed breakdown is as follows:
- Government Medical College, Amritsar: Rs 26.53 crore
- Government Medical College, Patiala: Rs 28.51 crore
- Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Medical Sciences, Mohali: Rs 9.43 crore
- PGI Satellite Centre, Ferozepur: Rs 4.51 crore
Focus on Modernization and Public Interest
CM Mann issued clear directives regarding the utilization of this significant allocation. He stressed that the funds must be diligently used for tangible development works within the medical colleges. A primary focus should be on procuring the latest medical machinery and equipment.
He underscored that this entire initiative is driven by the larger public interest. The vision is to transform these medical colleges into centers of excellence that can provide cutting-edge healthcare, thereby improving health outcomes for all citizens of Punjab. This move is seen as a critical part of the state government's broader strategy to strengthen the public healthcare system from the ground up.
