RG Kar Medical College Hospital Holds Crucial RKS Meeting to Enhance Patient Services
The Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata held a significant meeting on Wednesday, marking its first gathering in more than a year. This brainstorming session was specifically organized to identify and implement strategies for improving patient care services across the hospital.
Stakeholders Collaborate on Emergency Unit Reopening Plans
The meeting was attended by key hospital figures, including the college principal, the Medical Superintendent and Vice-Principal (MSVP), various department heads, and representatives from junior doctors and medical staff. During the discussions, the administration actively solicited suggestions from all stakeholders regarding the necessary steps for reopening the emergency unit, which has been a point of concern.
Trinesh Mondal, a junior doctor representative at the RKS, outlined several critical proposals put forward by the medical staff. These included increasing the number of trolley counters to streamline patient movement, establishing a dedicated patient help desk directly in front of the emergency unit to assist visitors and families, and the urgent construction of a new patient toilet facility.
Addressing Critical Infrastructure Deficiencies
A major point of discussion centered on the current state of restroom facilities. The existing emergency unit is equipped with only one functional toilet, which is shared by both male and female hospital staff. This lack of separate and adequate patient toilets has been identified as a significant barrier to providing dignified and efficient care.
In response to this issue, the doctors' representatives emphasized the immediate need for constructing a dedicated patient toilet to alleviate congestion and improve hygiene standards within the emergency department.
Doctors Demand Apology and Removal of MLA from Committee
The meeting also addressed recent controversial comments made by MLA Atin Ghosh, who serves as a member of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti. Ghosh had previously suggested that a patient's death could have been prevented if doctors had permitted the use of the staff bathroom.
The junior doctors present at the meeting formally demanded a public apology from MLA Atin Ghosh for his remarks, which they found disrespectful and misleading. Furthermore, they called for his removal from the RKS, arguing that such comments undermine the efforts of medical professionals and disrupt the collaborative environment necessary for effective hospital governance.
This comprehensive RKS meeting highlights ongoing efforts to tackle infrastructure challenges and improve patient care protocols at one of Kolkata's prominent medical institutions. The outcomes of these discussions are expected to guide future administrative actions and policy implementations at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital.
