Construction of a state-of-the-art five-storey critical care block (CCB) in Rudrapur has been successfully completed, with officials announcing that the facility is likely to be formally handed over to the health department by May. The Central government sanctioned a substantial amount of Rs 20.35 crore during the 2021-22 fiscal year under the National Health Mission (NHM) specifically for this critical healthcare facility. Execution of the construction work was handled by the Irrigation department's project division based in Dehradun, ensuring professional oversight and timely completion of all structural elements. The facility is designed to accommodate 50 beds dedicated to critical care patients, addressing a long-standing gap in emergency medical services.
Final Preparations Underway for Operational Readiness
According to Govardhan Gautam, junior engineer at the Chief Medical Officer's office, all construction-related work has been finalized. "We are currently arranging for a transformer and electricity connection to ensure the building is fully operational upon handover. The building will be formally transferred to the health department next month," Gautam confirmed.
Dr. KK Agarwal, Chief Medical Officer of Udham Singh Nagar district, emphasized the transformative impact this facility will have on local healthcare delivery. "The absence of a dedicated critical care unit has presented significant challenges for years. With this new facility, patients will finally receive timely, life-saving treatment within our own district rather than being transported elsewhere," Dr. Agarwal stated.

Currently, critically injured patients—particularly road accident victims—often face dangerous delays as they are referred to trauma centers in other cities or even neighboring states.
