Tamil Nadu Inaugurates Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre in Tirupur
In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure, a state-of-the-art Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre was inaugurated at the Tirupur Government Medical College Hospital on Tuesday. The facility, established under the Tamil Nadu government's Namakku Naame scheme, represents a major investment of Rs 37.5 crore aimed at addressing the growing healthcare needs of the region.
Addressing Rising Cancer Cases in Kongu Region
Minister for Tamil Development, Information & Publicity M P Saminathan, who inaugurated the centre, highlighted the urgent need for specialized cancer care. "Cancer cases have increased significantly in the Kongu region, and establishing a dedicated cancer centre is essential to provide timely and effective treatment," Saminathan told reporters during the event. He emphasized that this initiative is part of the government's broader strategy to enhance medical services across Tamil Nadu.
Expansion of Healthcare Facilities
In addition to the cancer care centre, the minister laid the foundation stone for a new cancer rehabilitation centre with a capacity of 100 beds. This facility, to be built at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore, will focus on post-treatment recovery and support for patients. Saminathan also inaugurated a treatment centre for type 1 diabetes, funded with Rs 20 crore, underscoring the government's commitment to tackling various health challenges.
Government Schemes Saving Lives
The minister cited the success of existing healthcare programs, noting that nearly five lakh lives have been saved through the state government's Innuyir Kappom - Nammai Kaakkum 48 scheme. He detailed several other initiatives designed for public welfare:
- Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam: A collaboration with NGOs to offer medical assistance at the doorstep, identifying over 200 children with diabetes for early intervention.
- Idhayam Kappom Thittam: A scheme providing comprehensive healthcare support to vulnerable populations.
Additional Development Projects Launched
The inauguration event also featured the launch of multiple other projects aimed at improving infrastructure and social welfare in the region:
- Integrated One-Stop Centres: Four centres for disabled people were inaugurated to provide accessible services and support.
- Road Widening Project: Work commenced on widening the Palladam-Pollachi Road into a four-lane highway to enhance connectivity and reduce traffic congestion.
- Infrastructure Inspection: The minister inspected ongoing work on a bypass in Palladam, ensuring timely completion of critical infrastructure.
- Support for Athletes: Accident insurance cards worth Rs 5 lakh each were distributed to 70 athletes, promoting safety and security in sports.
These initiatives reflect the Tamil Nadu government's multifaceted approach to development, combining healthcare, infrastructure, and social welfare to improve the quality of life for residents across the state.
