UP Deputy CM Orders Swift Inquiry Over Rats in Gonda Hospital Ward

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has taken immediate action following a disturbing viral video. The footage shows rats crawling around a ward at the autonomous state medical college in Gonda. Pathak, who also serves as the state's health minister, described the incident as serious.

Video Sparks Hygiene Concerns

The video circulated widely on social media platforms. It clearly depicts rodents moving on a bedside stool. The rats also appear near an oxygen supply line within the hospital ward. This visual evidence has raised significant alarms about patient safety and overall cleanliness at the government-run facility.

Pathak did not delay his response. He directed officials to constitute a special committee to investigate the entire matter. The deputy chief minister set a strict deadline for this inquiry.

One-Week Deadline for Detailed Report

"The inquiry must be completed within a week and a detailed report should be submitted," Pathak stated firmly. He emphasized that the administration would not tolerate any negligence in this case. Officials found responsible for lapses will face strict disciplinary action.

The health minister issued clear, additional instructions to the medical college administration. He mandated proper cleanliness protocols across all hospital wards. Pathak also called for effective measures to control pests like rodents, flies, and mosquitoes.

Zero Tolerance Policy on Hospital Hygiene

"There will be zero tolerance for laxity in maintaining hygiene in medical institutions," Pathak declared. He stressed that patient welfare is the top priority. Strengthening arrangements for pest control is now a critical focus area for the health department.

According to health department officials, the newly formed inquiry committee has a three-fold task. First, it will examine the authenticity of the viral video. Second, the committee will conduct a thorough assessment of current sanitation practices at the Gonda medical college. Finally, it will identify accountability and pinpoint where the system failed.

This proactive move by the deputy chief minister aims to restore public trust. It signals a strong commitment to upholding the highest standards of hygiene and care in Uttar Pradesh's government healthcare facilities.
