Vizag Woman Alleges Medical Negligence at KGH, Meets Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan

In a distressing incident from Visakhapatnam, a woman named Patnala Umadevi approached Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan at Vizag airport, submitting a representation that alleges gross negligence by doctors and staff at King George Hospital (KGH) in Vizag city. This alleged negligence reportedly led to the tragic death of her unborn child, sparking concerns over healthcare standards in the region.

Details of the Alleged Medical Negligence

According to the complaint, Umadevi, who was pregnant, was admitted to KGH in the first week of December 2025. Despite her delivery due date having elapsed, the medical team at the hospital opted to continue with a normal delivery procedure. Her family members raised serious concerns about Umadevi's deteriorating health condition and urgently requested the staff to address these issues appropriately.

However, the hospital staff allegedly behaved in an inappropriate and unprofessional manner towards Umadevi and her family during the course of treatment. This alleged misconduct compounded the family's distress during a critical time.

Consequences of Delayed Medical Intervention

The delay in deciding on a caesarean section proved fatal, resulting in a stillbirth. After delivering the dead baby, Umadevi experienced significant physical suffering and immense mental distress. The emotional trauma of losing her child was exacerbated by the alleged negligence she endured at the hospital.

The distressed woman took her grievance directly to Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Friday night at Vizag airport, while he was returning from an official visit. She presented her case, hoping for justice and accountability in this tragic matter.

Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan's Response and Assurance

Responding promptly to the woman's complaint, Pawan Kalyan directed officials to arrange a detailed hearing at the state secretariat. He assured Umadevi that her concerns would be thoroughly examined and that appropriate steps would be taken in accordance with government procedures.

After receiving the representation, Pawan Kalyan instructed officials to bring the woman and her family to his office at Amaravati on Monday. This move demonstrates the government's commitment to addressing allegations of medical negligence and ensuring proper healthcare protocols are followed.

This incident highlights critical issues in maternal healthcare and patient treatment standards at government hospitals. It underscores the need for stricter oversight and accountability mechanisms in medical facilities to prevent such tragedies in the future. The case is now under official review, with authorities promising a thorough investigation into the allegations raised by Patnala Umadevi.
