Woman Dies After Stillbirth in Jamshedpur CHC, Health Authorities Order Probe
A tragic incident unfolded in Jamshedpur as a 31-year-old woman, Khushbu Khandayat, died during treatment after delivering a stillborn baby at the community health centre (CHC) in Manoharpur, West Singhbhum district. The event occurred on Saturday, prompting immediate action from health authorities who have ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Details of the Incident
Khushbu Khandayat, a resident of Dongakata village, was admitted to the CHC on Saturday after experiencing labour pain. In the evening, she gave birth to a stillborn child. Sources indicate that upon learning about the stillbirth, she suffered significant mental trauma, which, combined with post-delivery complications, led to her death late that same day.
Family and Local Allegations
Following Khushbu's death, her family created a disturbance at the hospital, accusing the staff of negligence. Her husband, Rohit Khandayat, expressed his anguish, stating, "If they were experiencing difficulty in tending to post-delivery complications, then they should have referred her to the Sadar hospital on time. Delayed treatment led to my wife's death." He demanded a probe and strict action against those responsible.
Locals and Sitaram Gop, the Manoharpur block president of Congress, raised serious concerns about the CHC's facilities. Gop alleged, "The CHC has an ultrasound machine but there are no trained technicians to operate it. Even emergency services are non-existent." He further claimed that neither a surgeon nor a gynaecologist is available at the centre, highlighting systemic issues in healthcare delivery.
Official Response and Investigation
District civil surgeon Dr. Jujhar Majhi confirmed that a probe has been initiated into the matter. He assured that strict action will be taken against any culprits based on the findings. "With regard to the facilities at the CHC, a detailed assessment will be conducted and steps will be taken accordingly," Majhi told the media on Sunday, emphasizing the commitment to addressing the deficiencies.
