Women Police to Guard DTC Ladies Special Buses in Delhi for Enhanced Safety
Women Police on DTC Ladies Special Buses in Delhi

Women police personnel will be deployed inside all Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) 'ladies special' buses operating on government-identified routes, transport officials stated on Wednesday.

The decision was reached during a meeting chaired by Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Taranjit Singh Sandhu. The meeting included officials from the Delhi Police and the transport department, as reported by news agency PTI.

Initially, these ladies’ special buses will operate on designated routes, primarily covering remote areas of Outer Delhi. The buses will be staffed entirely by women employees, officials informed.

“The Delhi Police has been requested to deploy women police personnel on the ladies’ special buses plying on these routes, particularly during morning and evening hours. Taking a highly serious view of women’s security, the LG issued strict directives to the authorities, categorically stating that women’s safety should not be compromised at any cost,” a transport department official said.

The official added that the Delhi government is considering increasing the number of women’s special buses from the existing 30 to 50. “It is also being considered that half of these be university special buses,” he noted.

Officials also stated that another key decision taken at the meeting was to directly integrate panic button alerts installed in buses with the Delhi Police’s 112 PCR emergency response system.
