MBBS Student Found Dead in Dehradun Hostel Room
A tragic incident unfolded at the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences in Dehradun, where a 19-year-old first-year MBBS student was discovered deceased in her hostel room on Friday. The student, originally from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, was found after hostel authorities raised an alarm with the police when she remained unresponsive for several hours and her room was locked from the inside.
Police Break Open Door, Launch Investigation
Officials were forced to break open the door to the hostel room, where they found the student unresponsive. Dehradun SP (rural, Rishikesh) Jaya Baluni stated that no suicide note was recovered during the initial investigation. She revealed that classmates reported the student had been visibly distressed in recent days due to disagreements with a close male friend, who is also 19 years old and hails from Muzaffarnagar.
The two students spent considerable time together on campus, according to sources. The male friend was questioned by police and confirmed the disagreements but denied any knowledge of the exact circumstances leading to her death.
Probe into Mobile Phone and Social Media Activity
SP Baluni added that authorities are examining the student's mobile phone and social media activity to determine the factors that may have contributed to her death. The body has been sent for a postmortem examination, and the student's parents have been notified of the tragic event.
Family Awareness and Alleged Parental Intervention
Meanwhile, another police officer involved in the investigation, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the families of both the student and her male friend were aware of their friendship. The officer noted that a few days prior to the incident, the girl's mother learned her daughter had also befriended another classmate and instructed her to cease interaction with him.
It was further alleged that the mother asked the male friend to discourage her from speaking to other boys, which may have caused significant distress to the student. Police are continuing their investigation to piece together the events leading up to her untimely death.
