Amethi's Medical College to Become 550-Bed Facility by Jan 2026
Amethi Medical College Expansion to 550 Beds by 2026

In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, the autonomous state medical college located in Tiloi tehsil of Amethi district is poised for a major transformation. Official sources confirmed on Thursday that the institution will be expanded into a modern 550-bed medical facility, with completion targeted for the end of January 2026.

A ₹300 Crore Project Nearing Completion

The ambitious upgrade, which carries an estimated cost of around Rs 300 crore, is currently in its final stages of development. Public Works Department (PWD) officials have reported that while the main structural work is finished, the finishing touches are now being applied. This substantial investment underscores the state government's commitment to enhancing medical services not just in Amethi, but across the adjoining districts as well.

From 200 to 550 Beds: A Detailed Breakdown

Currently, healthcare services in the area are delivered through a 200-bed hospital that is attached to the existing medical college. The expansion plan is set to dramatically increase this capacity. Officials detailed that the project involves the construction of a brand-new 300-bed hospital block. Additionally, a specialized 50-bed critical care unit will be established to handle severe and emergency cases.

Once both new structures are operational and handed over by the end of January 2026, the combined bed strength of the entire medical complex will reach 550. This represents a more than doubling of the current inpatient capacity.

Aligning with a Broader Healthcare Vision

Dr. Reena Sharma, the principal of the medical college, stated that this expansion is being carried out in direct alignment with the broader healthcare vision of the state government. The goal is to create a robust, modern medical hub that can cater to a wider population with advanced facilities.

The development is expected to alleviate pressure on existing healthcare centers in the region and provide residents with access to more specialized and critical care without having to travel long distances. The addition of the dedicated critical care block is particularly noteworthy, as it will enhance the facility's ability to manage life-threatening conditions and complex medical emergencies.

This upgrade for the Tiloi-based medical college marks a pivotal step in strengthening the public health infrastructure of central Uttar Pradesh, promising improved medical outcomes for thousands of citizens.
