Tragic Death of Medical Student in Amravati Hotel Room
A 28-year-old doctor, who was pursuing postgraduate studies at Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Medical College (PDMC) in Amravati, was found dead in a hotel room early on Monday morning. The deceased, identified as Dr Shahu Sanjay Deshmukh, originally hailed from Nashik and was in the final year of his MS (orthopaedics) program. Sources describe him as an academically bright individual who had successfully completed his MBBS.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Incident
According to police reports, a hotel room located on the Shegaon-Rahatgaon road in Amravati was booked under the name of Swapnil Durgade, a friend of Dr Deshmukh, on January 25. Both Dr Deshmukh and his friend visited the room in the evening and departed around 9:15 PM. They returned to the hotel at approximately 1:10 AM, after which Durgade reportedly left the premises, leaving Dr Deshmukh alone in the room.
At around 4:30 AM, Dr Deshmukh allegedly approached the hotel reception and requested staff to contact his friend. He explained that his jacket and mobile phone were with Durgade, who had taken them due to the cold weather. Hotel employees attempted to reach Durgade, but the calls went unanswered, possibly because he was riding a two-wheeler at the time.
Around 5:15 AM, Dr Deshmukh returned to his room. Later, at about 7 AM, a hotel employee noticed that the room door was not bolted from inside. Upon entering, they discovered Dr Deshmukh hanging inside the room.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon being alerted, Durgade returned to the hotel and informed the police. Nandgaon Peth police station In-charge Dinesh Dahatonde, along with his team, promptly reached the spot to initiate an investigation. Senior police officers and students from PDMC also arrived at the hotel after learning about the tragic incident.
The police are currently probing the circumstances surrounding Dr Deshmukh's death, including the events leading up to it and the interactions between him and his friend. Authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the cause of death, but the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact sequence of events and any potential factors involved.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the medical community in Amravati, particularly among students and faculty at PDMC, where Dr Deshmukh was known for his academic prowess. The local authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to piece together the details of this heartbreaking case.
