Apollo Hospitals invests Rs 550 crore in Pune expansion

In a significant move to strengthen its presence in Maharashtra, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise has made a substantial investment of Rs 550 crore for the acquisition and expansion of Royal Mudhol Hospital in Pune. This strategic expansion marks the healthcare giant's third facility in the state and represents a major boost to Pune's medical infrastructure.

Major Investment Breakdown

The Chennai-based healthcare provider has allocated Rs 450 crore specifically for acquiring the 250-bed hospital from the royal family of Mudhol. The land for this facility has been secured on a long-term lease basis from the same royal family, ensuring stable operations for years to come.

Beyond the acquisition costs, Apollo Hospitals has already injected Rs 100 crore into the expansion project, with an additional Rs 100 crore investment planned in the pipeline. The total project cost is estimated at Rs 650 crore, which will transform the hospital into a 400-bed medical facility equipped with cutting-edge technology.

Advanced Medical Facilities and Leadership

The newly inaugurated facility, located near Swargate, will feature state-of-the-art medical technologies including advanced surgical robotics, precision oncology, and comprehensive critical care services. The hospital will specialize in cardiac sciences, transplants, orthopaedics, and mother-and-child health programs, all supported by a unified digital infrastructure.

Additional features include modular operating theatres, specialized neonatal units, and IoT-driven monitoring systems with telehealth connectivity. These advancements are designed to address critical healthcare gaps in the region and provide comprehensive medical care to patients.

Apollo Hospitals has appointed Manisha Karmarkar as the CEO of their Pune operations, bringing experienced leadership to oversee the facility's growth and service delivery.

Broader Expansion Plans

Suneeta Reddy, Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals Enterprise, revealed during the facility's inauguration on Monday that the company has ambitious plans to expand by 4,500 beds across India over the next five years. This nationwide expansion will require an investment of approximately Rs 2,000 crore.

Reddy confirmed that the company is prepared to take on debt if necessary to fund this proposed expansion, demonstrating their commitment to growing their healthcare footprint throughout the country. This Pune investment represents a significant step in their broader strategic vision for healthcare delivery in India.

The expansion of Apollo Hospitals in Pune is expected to create numerous employment opportunities and enhance medical tourism in the region, while providing access to world-class healthcare services for local residents.
