Madurai: Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Madurai used the minimally invasive Vacuum-Assisted Breast Biopsy (VABB) technique to treat a 20-year-old woman diagnosed with fibroadenoma, a common benign breast tumor. VABB is an image-guided method that enables the removal of selected benign breast lumps through a very small skin incision, often without the need for stitches.

Patient History and Diagnosis

The woman, a resident of Tenkasi, had experienced mild pain and swelling in her left breast for four months. After fibroadenoma was confirmed through diagnostic tests, she was referred to Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Madurai. The clinical team recommended VABB, which was performed by the department of interventional radiology.

Procedure Details

An advanced ultrasound identified the fibroadenoma, measuring 4 x 3 cm. Under local anesthesia, the tumor was removed using a 9G VABB needle. The hospital reported that the patient tolerated the procedure well, recovered without complications, and was discharged on the same day. She was advised to attend regular follow-ups.
