Pune Police Expose Bogus Doctor With Only SSC Qualification

In a startling revelation that has shocked Pune's medical community, city police have arrested a 57-year-old man for allegedly posing as a qualified doctor and treating patients for several years without any legitimate medical degree. The accused, identified as Pramod Rajaram Gundu, a resident of Bibvewadi, was found to have only completed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) while running a medical practice.

The Investigation That Exposed the Fake Doctor

The case came to light when Dr. Vasundhara Patil, a medical officer at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Khadak police station on May 2, 2025. The investigation began after the PMC's health department received a complaint against Gundu in September 2024.

Following the complaint, Dr. Patil conducted an inquiry as per the orders of the Bogus Doctor Search Committee of the PMC. She personally visited Gundu's establishment, the "Padma Poly Clinic" located in the Kasewadi slums of Bhavani Peth, to verify his medical credentials and documents.

"We discovered that Gundu was not registered with any medical councils in India, yet he was actively providing medical treatment to people," Dr. Patil stated during the investigation. The findings were subsequently submitted to the PMC's legal department for further action.

Legal Proceedings and Arrest

The PMC's legal department confirmed that Gundu possessed no authorized medical degree and recommended filing a case under Section 33(2) of the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act 1961. This led to the official FIR being registered at Khadak police station.

Gundu attempted to avoid arrest by seeking anticipatory bail, but both the Pune court and the Bombay High Court rejected his applications. Following the court rejections, a police team led by Police Sub-Inspector Jaysingh Dadhe launched a search operation and successfully arrested Gundu on November 6, 2025.

"The court has remanded accused Gundu to police custody until November 10 for further investigation," stated Sub-Inspector Dadhe. "Our probe has confirmed that the accused is just an SSC pass but was providing medical treatment to people illegally for years."

Ongoing Investigation and Public Safety Concerns

The case has raised serious concerns about public health safety and the ease with which unqualified individuals can establish medical practices in urban areas. Police are now investigating how long Gundu had been operating his clinic and whether any patients suffered harm due to his unqualified treatment.

Authorities have urged citizens to always verify the credentials of healthcare providers through official medical council registries before seeking treatment. The Pune Municipal Corporation has also intensified its drive against bogus medical practitioners operating in the city.

This incident highlights the critical importance of proper verification processes in healthcare and serves as a warning to those attempting to practice medicine without legitimate qualifications in Maharashtra.
