Former Punjab AIG's Wife Injured During Therapy Session
A disturbing case of alleged medical negligence has emerged from Zirakpur, where the wife of a retired Punjab AIG suffered a serious injury during what was supposed to be a therapeutic session. The incident has led to legal action against a doctor and his helper at a local wellness center.
The Incident and Immediate Aftermath
Retired AIG Prem Sagar Sharma filed an official complaint stating that his 67-year-old wife, Uma Sharma, experienced a traumatic injury during treatment at the Advance Acupressure Naturopathy Therapy Centre & Institute. The elderly woman had been suffering from persistent pain in her left shoulder and sought relief through a recommended five-day treatment program at the facility located on High Ground Road, Nabha Sahib Shopping Complex.
The situation took a dramatic turn on June 27, 2025, when during a therapy session, a helper named Manoj allegedly placed his foot below Mrs. Sharma's left shoulder and applied a sudden, forceful jerk. The retired officer reported that his wife immediately screamed in pain, indicating something had gone terribly wrong during the procedure.
Medical Confirmation and Legal Action
Following the incident, the center staff advised the couple that the patient needed complete rest for the entire day. However, instead of improving, Mrs. Sharma's condition deteriorated significantly with severe chest pain developing. Concerned about his wife's worsening state, Sharma took her for medical examination at Delta Lab.
The X-ray results confirmed their worst fears - Mrs. Sharma had sustained a fracture in her chest bone, specifically a rib fracture. The severity of the injury necessitated immediate hospitalization, and she was subsequently admitted to Singla Hospital in Patiala for proper medical treatment and care.
After conducting a thorough inquiry into the matter, the police registered a formal case against Dr. S S Gill, the owner of the therapy center, and his helper Manoj. The First Information Report has been filed under sections 125(A) and 125(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), marking a significant legal development in this case of alleged medical malpractice.
Prem Sagar Sharma, who retired from the position of AIG (Jails) in 2016 and resides at house number 914, Sagar Street No. 9, New Sullar, Patiala, continues to support his wife through her recovery while seeking justice through the legal system.
