Born in Gorakhi village in Bhavnagar district to a family of farmers, Ganesh Baraiya always dreamt of wearing the doctor's white coat. His determination saw him excel academically, culminating in him clearing the challenging NEET exam in 2018. However, his path was brutally blocked when the Medical Council of India (MCI) declared him ineligible for MBBS admission solely due to his height.
Refusing to accept this setback, Ganesh, with the crucial financial backing of his school principal, Dr Dalpatbhai Kataria, challenged the decision in court. The legal fight moved from the Gujarat High Court to the Supreme Court of India. After four intense months, the apex court delivered a historic judgment in 2019, ruling that height cannot be the sole criterion to deny someone admission to an MBBS course. This verdict paved his way into Bhavnagar Medical College.
Conquering Medical College with Teamwork
Medical school presented its own set of practical challenges. During surgeries and clinical practicals, Ganesh needed adaptations. His colleagues and professors became his support system, adjusting operation tables and instruments to enable his full participation. This spirit of teamwork allowed him to complete his MBBS degree and subsequent internship successfully, proving that collaboration can dismantle physical barriers.

On November 27, 2025, Dr Ganesh Baraiya officially began his service as a Medical Officer in Bhavnagar. While patients may initially be surprised, his competence and story quickly earn their trust.
