The Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Kerala Government Medical Officers' Association (KGMOA) have issued strong condemnations following a brutal assault on a woman doctor at the Perinthalmanna district hospital in Kerala. She is currently undergoing treatment in the surgical intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital, where her condition is being closely monitored.

The medical associations have revealed that this violent incident is directly linked to the unfortunate death of a patient who suffered from postpartum haemorrhage (PPH). This rare but life-threatening complication occurs when an atonic uterus fails to contract properly after childbirth, leading to excessive and potentially fatal bleeding.
According to official statements from both IMA and KGMOA, medical professionals provided the best possible treatment in accordance with established medical protocols. The association alleges that a group of individuals deliberately misrepresented the natural complications associated with childbirth as medical negligence. These individuals then forcibly entered the doctor's consultation room, resulting in serious injuries to Dr Jaleel.
"Such acts of violence, stemming from a failure to understand the scientific challenges in medical treatment and taking the law into one's own hands, are completely unjustifiable under any circumstances," declared KGMOA in their statement.
