A tragic incident in Kochi has raised serious questions about medical care after a 30-year-old woman died following the delivery of her second child. The North Paravur police have now registered a case of unnatural death based on a complaint filed by her grieving family, who allege severe medical negligence by a private hospital.
Allegations of Negligence and Lack of Communication
The deceased, identified as Kavyamol of Vadakkekara, gave birth at a private hospital in North Paravur on December 24. According to her family, the situation took a dire turn soon after the delivery. They allege that Kavyamol suffered from severe bleeding immediately after the childbirth, a critical complication that was not managed effectively.
In a shocking claim, the family stated that the hospital failed to inform them about the true gravity of her condition. They were allegedly not told that Kavyamol had suffered a heart attack and had to be put on a ventilator as her health deteriorated rapidly. Due to her worsening state, she was transferred to another private hospital in Kochi on the same night for advanced treatment.
A Tragic End and Police Investigation
Despite being moved to a different facility, Kavyamol could not be saved. She passed away on December 31 while undergoing treatment. Following her death, her father, Prakashan, approached the authorities with a formal complaint.
Acting on the complaint, the North Paravur police have officially registered a case. The legal action has been initiated under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, which pertains to unnatural death. A key piece of evidence, the postmortem examination, was conducted on Friday. The police have stated they are now awaiting the detailed postmortem report to conclusively determine the exact cause of death.
Hospital Denies Claims as Family Seeks Answers
While the family seeks justice, the authorities of the North Paravur hospital where the delivery took place have categorically denied any allegations of medical negligence. This denial sets the stage for a potential legal and medical inquiry into the standard of care provided.
The case highlights the devastating consequences of alleged postpartum complications and has cast a spotlight on patient communication protocols and emergency obstetric care in private healthcare settings. The community awaits the findings of the official postmortem report, which will be crucial for the ongoing police investigation.
