A 41-year-old man from Kollam, who became the focus of a dramatic medical rescue attempt following a two-wheeler accident, has succumbed to his injuries in Kochi. Linu V B passed away on Tuesday while undergoing intensive treatment, despite a rare and heroic emergency procedure performed by doctors at the roadside.
Heroic Roadside Intervention to Create Airway
The incident, which occurred at Udayamperoor, took a critical turn when Linu's breathing was blocked by blood, mud, and facial fractures. In a remarkable act, three doctors who happened to pass by the site—Dr. B Manoop, Dr. Thomas Peter, and Dr. Didhiya K Thomas—stepped in to save his life. With only basic tools available, including a razor blade and a straw, the medical professionals performed an emergency cricothyrotomy right on the road.
This rare procedure involves creating an alternate airway in the throat. Their swift intervention successfully stabilized Linu's condition long enough for him to be transferred to a hospital in Kochi via ambulance, providing a crucial window for further treatment.
A Desperate Fight for Life in Hospital
Upon arrival at the hospital, Linu was in a critical condition, having sustained a severe cerebral injury and slipped into a coma. His situation deteriorated rapidly when he suffered a cardiac arrest shortly after admission. The hospital's medical team managed to revive him within minutes.
Despite being placed on ventilator support and receiving intensive care, his condition showed no signs of improvement. Both his brain and heart were compromised, and doctors noted a subsequent deterioration in his kidney function. The combined impact of these severe injuries proved insurmountable.
