Noida Man Survives Horrific Chainsaw Accident After Emergency Surgery
A 27-year-old man from Noida has made a remarkable recovery after suffering a life-threatening abdominal injury in a chainsaw accident earlier this month. The incident occurred while he was cutting tree branches, leading to an emergency surgical intervention at a private hospital in Greater Noida West.
Critical Condition After Chainsaw Mishap
The accident happened when the man climbed a tree to trim branches and lost his balance. A running chainsaw struck his abdomen, tearing open his abdominal wall and leaving part of his small intestine exposed. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with significant blood loss and severe trauma.
Dr. Kapil Kochhar, director of minimal access, bariatric, robotic and general surgery at Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital, described the patient's condition upon arrival. "When brought to the emergency department, the patient's condition was extremely serious. Heavy blood loss and severe abdominal trauma with exposed intestine carry a high risk of infection and shock, making immediate surgical intervention essential," he explained.
Complex Three-Hour Surgical Procedure
Surgeons performed a nearly three-hour operation to address the extensive damage. During the procedure, they discovered:
- The small intestine was torn at three separate locations
- Damaged sections of intestine required removal and reconnection
- Deep cuts in the mesentery (the membrane supplying blood to the intestine) needed repair to control bleeding
The surgical team worked meticulously to repair the abdominal wall, address the intestinal injuries, and ensure proper blood supply to the digestive organs.
Successful Recovery and Discharge
Following the successful surgery, the patient spent nine days in recovery at the hospital. Medical staff monitored his progress closely as he regained strength and mobility. Remarkably, he was able to walk normally upon discharge and continues his recovery at home.
