SRN Hospital Prayagraj Performs First Laser Varicose Vein Surgeries
Prayagraj Hospital's First Laser Varicose Vein Surgery Success

In a significant medical advancement for the region, doctors at Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital in Prayagraj have successfully performed laser surgery on two patients suffering from severe varicose veins. This marks the first time this modern laser technology has been used for such a procedure at the hospital, offering new hope for effective treatment.

Patients Find Relief After Long Suffering

The beneficiaries of this advanced surgical intervention were a 35-year-old woman from Jasra and a 50-year-old man from the trans-Ganga area. Both had endured long-term discomfort, including prominent swelling, persistent pain, and a burning sensation in their legs, which worsened when standing. Medical examinations, including ultrasound, confirmed the diagnosis of varicose veins in both legs for each patient.

Initially, the standard conservative treatments were attempted. Both patients were given medication and advised to use elastic compression stockings. However, when these measures failed to yield significant improvement, the medical team at SRN Hospital decided that surgical intervention was the best course of action.

A Modern Surgical Approach

The patients were admitted to the hospital's surgery department for the groundbreaking procedure. The surgery was performed using an endovenous laser technique under real-time ultrasound guidance. This minimally invasive approach required only tiny incisions, contrasting with traditional, more invasive surgical methods.

The results were immediate and remarkable. Following the surgery, both patients experienced substantial relief. The chronic swelling in their legs subsided, and their overall comfort levels improved dramatically. The successful outcome highlights the efficacy of laser technology in treating this common vascular condition.

Expert Insight on Varicose Veins and Treatment

Explaining the condition, Assistant Professor Dr. Atreya Saha stated that varicose veins develop when the valves within the leg veins weaken. This malfunction causes blood to pool in the veins instead of flowing efficiently back to the heart. If neglected, the condition can lead to chronic pain, permanent swelling, and serious skin complications.

Commenting on the patients' recovery, Assistant Professor and surgeon Dr. Santosh Singh from Motilal Nehru Medical College confirmed that the post-operative swelling had completely resolved and that both individuals were recovering at a rapid pace.

The successful procedures were a team effort. The surgical team comprised Dr. Arun, Dr. Deepak, and Dr. Saurabh. Crucial support from the radiology department was provided by Dr. Namrata Singh and Dr. Harshika, while Assistant Professor Dr. Anamika Pandey expertly managed the anesthesia during the operations.

This milestone at SRN Hospital establishes a new, less invasive treatment option for varicose veins in Prayagraj, potentially benefiting countless others suffering from this painful condition.
