RailTel Wins Rs 56.71 Crore Assam HMIS Deal to Digitize 7 Medical Colleges
RailTel to Implement HMIS in 7 Assam Medical Colleges

In a significant push to modernize its public healthcare infrastructure, the Assam government has awarded a major contract to RailTel Corporation of India Limited. The Navratna public sector enterprise will implement a state-of-the-art Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) across seven premier medical colleges and hospitals in the state.

A Rs 56.71 Crore Digital Healthcare Transformation

The project, valued at Rs 56.71 crore, is a cornerstone of Assam's efforts to make hospital services more transparent, efficient, and user-friendly. RailTel, which operates under the Ministry of Railways, will deploy a comprehensive, web-based HMIS platform designed to digitize virtually every facet of hospital management and patient care.

The seven medical institutions set to undergo this digital transformation are:

  • Assam Medical College Hospital, Dibrugarh
  • Guwahati Medical College Hospital
  • Silchar Medical College Hospital, Cachar
  • Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College Hospital, Barpeta
  • Tezpur Medical College Hospital
  • Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital
  • Diphu Medical College Hospital

How the HMIS Will Revolutionize Patient Care

The new system is not just about digital record-keeping. According to an official RailTel statement, the HMIS will be integrated directly with medical and diagnostic equipment. This integration is crucial for ensuring a seamless flow of information between various departments, laboratories, and wards, eliminating data silos and reducing delays.

The expected benefits are multifaceted. For patients, it translates to more streamlined services, less paperwork, and greater transparency. For healthcare providers and hospital administrators, the digitization will ease significant administrative burdens, reduce manual errors, and allow staff to focus more on core medical duties.

Seven-Year Project Timeline and Long-Term Support

RailTel has outlined an extensive project timeline to ensure successful implementation and stability. The core implementation phase across all seven hospitals is scheduled to take 78 weeks. Following the completion of work at the final hospital, there will be a dedicated six-month software stabilization period.

RailTel's commitment extends far beyond just setting up the system. The corporation will provide three years of comprehensive operations and maintenance (O&M) support. This will be followed by an additional two years of extended onsite O&M, ensuring the hospitals have sustained expert support for a total of five years post-implementation.

By digitizing the operations of Assam's leading medical institutions, this initiative is poised to set a new benchmark for modern, efficient, and accountable healthcare delivery not just in the state, but for the entire country.
