Sitapur Hospital Negligence: FIR After Woman's Death

Sitapur Police File FIR Against Private Hospital Over Woman's Death Post-Childbirth

In a tragic incident highlighting alleged medical negligence, the Sitapur Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the operator and staff of a private hospital in Reusa. This action follows a thorough investigation into the death of a woman shortly after she gave birth, with authorities pointing to serious lapses in care.

Sequence of Events Leading to the FIR

The woman was admitted to the private hospital on March 4, where she successfully delivered her baby. However, her condition deteriorated rapidly post-delivery, ultimately leading to her death. Distraught family members created a commotion outside the hospital, vehemently accusing the medical staff of negligence and improper treatment.

Taking immediate cognisance of the situation, District Magistrate Raja Ganapathi R ordered a formal inquiry. A committee was constituted under the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Biswan, Shikha Shukla, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

Key Findings from the SDM's Preliminary Inquiry

In her preliminary report, SDM Shikha Shukla noted that the patient appeared to be suffering from severe anaemia and was in a critical condition. Despite this, the hospital allegedly kept her admitted for nearly six hours without referring her to a higher medical facility equipped to handle such complications.

Hospital operator Vinay Kumar Mishra claimed that the patient was treated by a registered doctor, Dr. Hasan Shakeel. However, Dr. Shakeel reportedly denied having treated the patient at the facility, raising serious suspicions about the actual medical care provided.

These conflicting accounts have led to speculation that an unregistered medical practitioner might have been treating patients at the hospital, a grave violation of medical protocols.

Additional Violations Uncovered

The SDM's investigation revealed further irregularities:

  • Although the hospital was registered, it did not have the necessary permission to run an operation theatre.
  • CCTV cameras installed at the hospital were found to be non-functional, hindering the ability to review the events leading to the patient's death.

Based on these findings, the SDM recommended decisive action against the hospital administration to the District Magistrate, prompting the police to file the FIR.

Ongoing Investigation and Implications

The case underscores critical issues in healthcare delivery, particularly in private facilities. Authorities are continuing their probe to determine the exact cause of death and to hold those responsible accountable. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adherence to medical standards and the need for stringent oversight to prevent such tragedies in the future.
