Tragic Road Accident Claims Two Lives Near Trichy

A family trip turned into a nightmare when a car lost control and crashed into a bridge near Thuvarankurichi on Saturday, resulting in two fatalities and one critical injury. The devastating incident has left the local community in shock and raised concerns about road safety in the region.

The Victims and Their Final Journey

The deceased have been identified as J Patrick, 55, a respected professor from a private college in Pudukkottai, and his daughter-in-law M Arogya Priscilla, 26. The family had embarked on their journey from Chennai on Friday night, heading toward Madurai when tragedy struck the following morning.

Driving the vehicle was Patrick's son, P Melvin, 33, who sustained severe injuries in the crash. The accident occurred as the car was navigating a curve on the Thuvarankurichi–Natham highway. According to preliminary reports, Melvin lost control of the vehicle, causing it to collide with a soil-filled barrel positioned near the bridge guardrail.

Rescue Efforts and Medical Response

The impact of the collision caused extensive damage to the front portion of the car. Professor Patrick died on the spot, while local residents rushed to help the other victims. Melvin and Priscilla were rescued by bystanders and transported to Thuvarankurichi Government Hospital using a 108 ambulance service.

Despite medical efforts, the situation remained critical. Both injured victims were later transferred to a private hospital in Madurai for advanced treatment. Tragically, Priscilla succumbed to her injuries during the transfer, adding to the family's devastating loss.

Police Investigation and Aftermath

Thuvarankurichi police immediately conducted an inquiry at the accident site, documenting evidence and speaking with witnesses. The authorities have registered a case and initiated a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Patrick's body has been sent to Manapparai Government Hospital for postmortem examination, while Melvin continues to receive medical treatment for his injuries. The local community has been deeply affected by the sudden loss of the professor and his young daughter-in-law, with many expressing condolences for the grieving family.
