Kerala Woman Dies After Suicide Attempt, Months After Husband's Death in Israel
Wayanad woman dies after suicide attempt, husband died in Israel

A tragic sequence of events has culminated in the death of a 32-year-old woman from Kerala, months after her husband was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Israel. Reshma, a native of Koleri and wife of Jinesh P Sukumaran, passed away on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode.

A Double Tragedy for the Family

The recent incident follows an alleged suicide attempt by Reshma at her home on Monday, where she reportedly consumed poison. Her death adds another layer of sorrow to a family already reeling from a devastating loss earlier this year. Her husband, 38-year-old Jinesh P Sukumaran, a native of Koliyadi near Sultan Bathery in Wayanad, was found dead in July.

Jinesh's body was discovered in Mevaseret Zion, near Jerusalem, where he had been working as a caregiver. He had moved to Israel only in June, after previously being employed as a medical representative in Kerala. The case took a more complex turn as the elderly woman under his care was also found dead at the same location, with multiple stab injuries.

Struggling to Cope with Loss

Local authorities and community members reveal that Reshma was struggling profoundly to come to terms with her husband's sudden death. A V Jayan, the ward member of Kenichira ward in Poothadi panchayat, stated that Reshma had attended several counselling sessions following the tragedy.

"She had not come to terms with Jinesh's death," Jayan said. "When I visited her recently, she had put up around 10-15 framed photographs of moments spent with Jinesh in the front room of the house. I had promised her help to get a job to move on." Despite these efforts and promises of support, the grief proved overwhelming.

Aftermath and Final Rites

The couple is survived by their 10-year-old daughter, who now faces life without both parents. After a postmortem at the medical college hospital, Reshma's body was taken to the Sultan Bathery taluk hospital. Her funeral is scheduled to be held on Thursday at the electric crematorium in Choottakadavu, Mananthavady.

This heartbreaking story underscores the severe impact of unresolved grief and the psychological toll of sudden tragedy. It highlights the challenges faced by families of migrant workers, especially when tragedy strikes in a foreign land, leaving loved ones behind to grapple with complex emotions and an uncertain future without adequate closure or support.
