Tragic Suicide at Hazaribag Railway Station
A devastating incident unfolded at the Hazaribag town railway station on Friday when a 70-year-old man ended his life by jumping in front of an oncoming train. The tragic event prompted immediate response from railway authorities and local police, who rushed to the scene to begin their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Identity and Background of the Deceased
The deceased was identified as Vinay Kumar Singh, aged 70, who had served as an employee in the drinking water and sanitation department before his retirement. Although originally from Punaudih village in Patna district of Bihar, Singh had been residing for several years at his home on Canary Hill Road in Hazaribag. He lived there with his wife, son, and daughter-in-law, forming what appeared to be a complete family unit.
According to statements from his family members, Singh had been struggling with mental health issues for the past five to six years and had been receiving regular medical treatment for his condition. His relatives noted that in recent days, his mental state had shown signs of stability and he seemed to be behaving normally, giving them no indication of the tragedy to come.
The Fateful Morning and Investigation Findings
On the morning of his death, Singh left his home after telling family members that he was going out for a haircut and shave. This routine errand raised no suspicions among his relatives, who had no reason to believe he was contemplating such an extreme step.
During the subsequent investigation, police recovered some cash and a suicide note from his pocket. The handwritten note contained a heartfelt apology to his family members, clearly stating that he was ending his life of his own will. In a considerate gesture, Singh had also written down his family's mobile numbers, requesting that authorities inform them about his death.
Officers from both the Katkamdag police station and the Government Railway Police (GRP) took custody of the body, which was later sent to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
