Polio Drive Targets Nearly 5 Lakh Children
The district Health Department launched a five-day polio immunisation drive on Sunday as part of a nationwide campaign running until July 2. The campaign aims to cover approximately 4.9 lakh children below five years of age across Ludhiana.
Officials have set up 632 polio booths and 438 sub-booths across the district. To ensure every eligible child receives the vaccine, 1,535 house-to-house teams, 80 transit teams, and 98 mobile teams have been deployed. Additionally, 506 supervisors will monitor the campaign to ensure effective implementation.
Booths and House-to-House Visits
Civil Surgeon Dr Ramandeep Kaur said children will receive oral polio drops at booths on June 28, followed by intensive house-to-house visits to cover those who are missed. The campaign activities will continue for three days in rural areas and five days in urban and semi-urban areas, ensuring every eligible child gets the life-saving vaccine.
On the first day, Dr Rajinder Gulati, paediatrician, administered polio drops at the urban community health centre-cum-mother and child hospital in Sector 32. He emphasised that the campaign aims to ensure every child under five receives polio drops.
Appeal to Parents and Coordination
The district administration and Health Department appealed to all parents and guardians to ensure every eligible child receives polio drops during the campaign. Earlier in the week, Payal Goyal, Assistant Commissioner (General), and Dr Ramandeep Kaur reviewed arrangements and stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to achieve 100 percent coverage. Goyal directed all departments to extend full support to the campaign.
