In a significant move to safeguard public health, the Health Department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a rigorous food safety drive during the ongoing Kankaria Carnival 2025. The initiative focuses on ensuring the quality and security of food items served to thousands of visitors at the popular event.
Extensive Sample Collection from Carnival Stalls
The health officials collected samples from a total of 19 food stalls operating within the carnival premises. These samples were meticulously gathered as part of a proactive campaign under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act. The collected items were immediately dispatched to a certified laboratory for detailed analysis to check for adherence to safety norms and quality parameters.
Diverse Food Items Under the Scanner
The campaign cast a wide net, testing a variety of popular street and snack foods. The list of sampled items is extensive and includes:
- Dhokla
- Flavoured milk and buttermilk (chhaas)
- Momos and chana chor garam
- Khichu and jamun shot
- Black Forest pastry
- Batter (khiru) and dabeli filling (mavo)
- Milk shake and jeera puri
- Chaat, milk toast, and samosa
- Farsi puri, kachori, and thin sev
Vendors Subjected to Safety Checks
The samples were obtained from numerous well-known and smaller food outlets at the carnival. Some of the notable stalls inspected include Krishna Madras Cafe, Amul, Mulraj Caterers, Mishti Kitchen, and Crown Bakery. Other vendors on the list are Idli Ghar Foods Private Limited, Green Food Service, Hetvi Food, Epicore Health Care, Shukruti Caterers, Aabaad Foods Pvt Ltd, Bombay Bhajipau & Street Food, and Aapno Rajasthan.
Ongoing Vigilance for Public Welfare
This action underscores the AMC's continuous commitment to public health security, especially during large public gatherings like the Kankaria Carnival. By enforcing strict food safety protocols, the civic body aims to prevent foodborne illnesses and ensure that visitors can enjoy the festivities without health concerns. The results from the laboratory tests will determine the next course of action, which may include penalties or suspensions for vendors found violating standards.
The drive sends a strong message to all food business operators about the importance of maintaining hygiene and quality, aligning with the broader goal of making Ahmedabad's public events safe and enjoyable for all.
