Vijayawada: In a significant step towards strengthening healthcare services at government hospitals, the state government has approved the recruitment of 238 doctors for secondary healthcare institutions across the state. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav on Friday accorded approval for the appointments, aiming to fill vacancies in community health centres (CHCs), area hospitals and district hospitals.
Review Meeting and Approval
During a review meeting with the Director of Secondary Health, Chakradhar Babu, on Friday, the health minister assessed district-wise requirements and approved the immediate recruitment of 148 civil assistant surgeons (specialists) and 90 civil assistant surgeons (general).
Contract Terms and Salaries
Officials said that the doctors will be appointed on a one-year contract basis. Specialists having postgraduate qualifications will receive a monthly salary of Rs 1.10 lakh, while MBBS doctors will be paid Rs 61,960 per month.
District-wise Allocations
The highest number of appointments has been allotted to Nellore, Sri Sathya Sai and Anantapur districts, with 13 doctors each. Polavaram, Konaseema and Eluru will receive 11 doctors each, while Parvathipuram Manyam, Krishna, NTR, Bapatla and Tirupati districts have been allotted 10 doctors each. Other allocations include nine doctors each for East Godavari, Prakasam, Markapuram and Kurnool districts; eight each for Alluri Sitarama Raju, Chittoor and Annamayya; and seven each for Anakapalli, West Godavari, Palnadu and Nandyal districts. Additionally, six doctors each will be recruited for Srikakulam, Kakinada and Kadapa, while Vizianagaram will receive five doctors, Guntur four doctors and Visakhapatnam one doctor.
Recruitment Process
To ensure a faster and more effective recruitment process, the government has decided to fill the posts through district selection committees (DSCs) functioning under the supervision of district collectors. Officials believe district-level recruitment will attract more doctors willing to serve in their native or nearby districts, thereby improving retention and service delivery.
Minister's Directive
The health minister directed officials to complete the entire recruitment exercise within a month so that vacancies in government hospitals can be filled without delay.
