In a distressing incident during the ongoing Navratri festival, nearly a dozen members of two families from Rudrapur were rushed to the hospital after consuming contaminated buckwheat flour, commonly known as kuttu. The families, residing in Rampura and Subhash Colony, had purchased the flour from a local grocery store on Thursday evening to prepare rotis for their first-day fast.

Severe Symptoms Prompt Emergency Hospitalization

Hours after their dinner, multiple family members began experiencing alarming symptoms including vomiting, dizziness, loss of consciousness, and a sudden drop in body temperature. Relatives quickly transported them to the district hospital for urgent medical care. While some patients received primary treatment and were discharged, six individuals remain in critical condition under close medical supervision.

Health Officials Secure Samples and Launch Investigation

Dr. MK Tiwari, Additional Director of Health, confirmed that samples of the suspected contaminated flour were preserved on Friday for laboratory testing. "The condition of six patients is serious, and they are under close medical supervision," Dr. Tiwari stated. "The sample of the flour has been secured and senior officials have been informed. Strict action will follow based on the investigation findings."

This incident highlights significant food safety concerns during religious festivals when many people observe fasting rituals. Authorities are now examining the supply chain of the buckwheat flour to determine the source of contamination and prevent similar occurrences.

The local community has expressed shock and concern, with many calling for stricter quality controls on food products sold during festive seasons.
