The state health department has initiated a three-day deployment of senior officers to districts across Rajasthan starting Thursday, aiming to bolster emergency preparedness as heatwave conditions intensify across the region.
Inspection Teams to Visit Medical Facilities
Teams of senior officials will conduct thorough inspections of hospitals and health centres. Their primary focus will be on monitoring the readiness for heat-related illnesses, seasonal diseases, and fire safety protocols. The authorities have emphasized that all facilities must remain fully staffed and adequately equipped to handle any emergency.
A senior official confirmed that a detailed inspection checklist has been issued to guide these visits. The checklist includes verification of dedicated treatment corners for heatstroke patients, maintenance of emergency services, and availability of essential medicines and diagnostic facilities.
Measures to Combat Heat-Related Risks
With the risk of heatwave and heatstroke expected to rise significantly, medical institutions have been directed to set up specialized treatment areas. These corners will be equipped to handle patients suffering from heat-related ailments. Additionally, hospitals must ensure uninterrupted emergency services and stock sufficient quantities of medicines and diagnostic tools.
Inspection teams will verify these arrangements on the ground. They will also check for any shortages of fans, coolers, air-conditioners, water facilities, medicines, and Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS).
Patient and Attendant Welfare
Hospitals have been instructed to provide adequate shade and drinking water for patients and their attendants. The inspection teams will ensure that these basic amenities are available and functioning properly.
Food Safety Measures
Food safety officers have been tasked with collecting and testing food and water samples from crowded places, hostels, and other high-risk locations. This initiative aims to ensure hygiene and safe consumption, reducing the risk of waterborne and foodborne diseases during the heatwave.
