Heatwave Advisory Issued for Noida and Western Uttar Pradesh Amid Rising Temperatures

The district administration in Noida has issued a comprehensive heatwave advisory for Noida, Greater Noida, and adjoining areas, based on forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This warning comes as daytime temperatures are anticipated to cross 40°C starting Wednesday, with severe heatwave and loo-like conditions likely to persist between April 22 and April 25.

Revised School Timings and District-Wide Precautions

In response to the escalating heat, government school timings for classes 1 to 8 have been adjusted to 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM. This revision aims to minimize children's exposure to the peak afternoon heat, reducing the risk of heat-related illnesses. The advisory extends to several districts in western Uttar Pradesh, including Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Kasganj, Etawah, and Agra.

Authorities have emphasized that prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to serious health issues such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and other heat-related ailments. Officials are urging residents to avoid outdoor activities between noon and 3 PM unless absolutely necessary.

Preventive Measures and Health Recommendations

The district disaster management department has released a detailed public advisory outlining essential preventive steps. Residents are advised to:

  • Stay hydrated by consuming fluids like lemon water, buttermilk, lassi, aam panna, sugarcane juice, and oral rehydration drinks.
  • Wear loose, light-colored cotton clothing and cover their heads with caps, hats, umbrellas, or cotton cloth when outdoors.
  • Eat fresh, light meals, including seasonal fruits and vegetables such as cucumber, melon, and watermelon.
  • Avoid stale food, oily and spicy meals, limit tea and coffee intake, and refrain from alcohol consumption.
  • Never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.

For those working outdoors, the advisory recommends wearing full-sleeved cotton clothes and periodically cooling the body with wet cloths placed on the face, neck, and head.

Recognizing Heat Stress Symptoms and Emergency Response

Doctors have highlighted key warning signs of heat stress, including dizziness, vomiting, headache, muscle cramps, fainting, fever, or lack of sweating. In such cases, immediate action is crucial: move to a shaded area, loosen clothing, cool the body with water, and seek medical attention promptly.

Residents can contact the nearest health center or dial the 108 ambulance service for emergencies. The advisory stresses the importance of following these guidelines to ensure safety during the impending heatwave.

An official from the district administration stated, "There is a high probability of heatwave conditions in the coming days. People should follow the dos and don'ts issued by the administration and take precautions to stay safe." This proactive approach aims to mitigate the health risks associated with the extreme weather conditions forecasted for the region.
