The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread thunderstorms and hailstorms across Telangana over the next four days, providing much-awaited relief from the intense summer heat. Districts including Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, and Nagarkurnool have been placed under an orange alert for heavy thunderstorms between May 5 and 7.
According to the IMD, Hyderabad is also likely to experience widespread rain activity during this period, with maximum temperatures expected to gradually drop by 2°C to 5°C. Officials stated that the city and several other parts of the state are likely to remain below 39°C between May 5 and 8, offering significant respite from the ongoing heatwave conditions.
"Hailstorms and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph are very likely at isolated places in the alerted districts. Similar thunderstorm activity is also expected in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Warangal, Hanumakonda, and Rangareddy districts," read a note from the IMD.
Meanwhile, heatwave conditions continue to persist across the state. On Sunday, the highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at 45.3°C in Raikal of Jagtial district.
