Kanpur Emerges as Top Performer in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhav Campaign

In a significant achievement for public health initiatives, Kanpur Nagar has secured the leading position in the state-wide rankings for the Sambhav campaign. The results, which were officially released on January 31, highlight Kanpur's exceptional performance with an impressive score of 75.5 points.

State-Wide Rankings and Performance Metrics

The comprehensive ranking system placed Farrukhabad in the second position with 74.8 points, demonstrating strong commitment to health objectives. Shravasti followed closely at third place with 71.01 points, while Varanasi and Chandauli secured fourth and fifth positions with 70.3 and 70 points respectively.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Firozabad found itself at the 75th position with 45.5 points, indicating areas requiring focused improvement. Prayagraj and Kasganj occupied the 74th and 73rd positions with scores of 47.4 and 48.5 points respectively, highlighting the varying levels of implementation across different districts.

Remarkable Achievements in Child Nutrition

The campaign's success in Kanpur is particularly noteworthy in addressing severe acute malnutrition (SAM) among children. District authorities identified 1,850 children falling under the SAM category and implemented a comprehensive intervention strategy.

Through systematic health check-ups, medical management protocols, and continuous follow-up mechanisms, health officials recorded significant improvement in 1,837 children. The most remarkable outcome was the transition of 834 children from the SAM category to normal nutritional status, representing a major victory in the fight against malnutrition.

The overall health improvement percentage reached an impressive 99.30%, forming the primary basis for Kanpur's top ranking in the state assessment.

Strategic Focus Areas and Implementation

Authorities maintained special focus on multiple vulnerable groups, including children with severe acute malnutrition and those classified as severely underweight in the critical 0-6 months age group. To ensure comprehensive coverage, all identified children were systematically registered on the e-Kavach portal, effectively eliminating registration gaps between breastfeeding mothers and their infants.

The campaign ensured 100% follow-up of low birth weight infants through the dedicated efforts of ASHA workers, creating a robust monitoring framework for vulnerable newborns.

Maternal Health Excellence

Health monitoring of pregnant women emerged as another crucial parameter in the ranking assessment. Kanpur achieved extraordinary results in this domain, recording a 99.90% rate of appropriate weight gain among pregnant women.

During the campaign period, the district achieved complete coverage with 100% of pregnant women undergoing essential health check-ups and receiving necessary vaccinations, demonstrating comprehensive healthcare delivery.

Leadership and Coordinated Efforts

District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh extended congratulations to Chief Development Officer Diksha Jain and District Programme Officer Preeti Sinha for their instrumental roles in achieving this distinction. The campaign benefited from regular, result-oriented monitoring conducted by the CDO, ensuring effective implementation across all parameters.

District Programme Officer Preeti Sinha emphasized that the campaign's success stemmed from simultaneous work on all parameters related to SAM, severely underweight children, and pregnant women. The top ranking was ultimately achieved through data-based monitoring systems and the coordinated efforts of Anganwadi workers and ASHA personnel, creating a model for effective public health intervention.
