A Delhi court has denied anticipatory bail to a man accused of exploiting a woman on the false promise of marriage. The accused, identified as Kumar, allegedly persuaded the woman to travel to Delhi with assurances of marriage, after which they lived together at an Airbnb accommodation in Chhatarpur for about 19 days.
Court's Ruling
The court, while rejecting the bail plea, observed that the allegations were serious and involved a breach of trust. It noted that the woman had been induced to come to Delhi on the pretext of marriage, and the accused had exploited her during their stay. The judge emphasized that custodial interrogation was necessary to uncover the full extent of the offense.
Allegations Against the Accused
According to the prosecution, Kumar had promised marriage to the woman and convinced her to accompany him to Delhi. They stayed at a rented accommodation in Chhatarpur, where the alleged exploitation took place. The woman later filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Legal Proceedings
The defense argued that the accused had no criminal record and was willing to cooperate with the investigation. However, the court found that the nature of the offense required deeper investigation, and granting bail could hamper the process. The case is now set for further hearing, with the accused remaining in custody.
This case highlights the growing issue of exploitation under the guise of marriage, with courts increasingly taking a strict stance to protect victims' rights.
