Ludhiana: Maternal death audit leads to strict accountability for healthcare providers
Maternal death audit triggers accountability in Ludhiana

Ludhiana: A district administration review of all maternal deaths reported during April and May has triggered strict accountability measures for local healthcare providers.

Presiding over the Mission Jeevni meeting, deputy commissioner Himanshu Jain announced that lapses identified during the audit were viewed seriously, with responsibility being fixed where negligence was established.

The primary outcome of the meeting was a new mandate enforcing continuity of care. Jain ordered that once a pregnant patient is placed under the care of a higher-qualified specialist, management cannot be downgraded to a lower-qualified doctor without proper authorization and clinical justification.

He warned that no laxity in maternal services will be tolerated, reaffirming the mission’s goal of achieving zero preventable maternal deaths in the district. To improve future healthcare delivery, the administration also restructured the district’s grassroots support network.

Jain concluded the meeting by felicitating Mission Jeevni volunteers, praising their continued field efforts in monitoring high-risk pregnancies and strengthening maternal support services across the region.
