A 23-year-old woman preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) was found dead at her residence in Dehradun's Patel Nagar area, police said on Tuesday. A suicide note recovered from the room suggested that she was under emotional distress.
Incident Details
Riya Kumari had been preparing for competitive examinations and had appeared in the recent NEET exam. Police said she was studying in her room until around 10 pm on Monday. On Tuesday morning, when her mother found the room locked from inside and received no response despite repeated calls, family members forced the door open and found her unresponsive.
Suicide Note Contents
ISBT police station in-charge SI Jaiveer Singh said, “A two-line note was recovered from the room in which Riya wrote that she felt like a burden on others and expressed love for her family.”
Investigation Underway
Family members told police that Riya was a bright student but had been upset over not achieving the level of success she had hoped for in her studies. Investigators are also examining whether academic pressure contributed to her distress. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police said further investigation is underway, and statements of family members are being recorded. Riya had appeared in the NEET examination that was later cancelled amid allegations of question paper leak and irregularities.
