Panchkula Municipal Corporation Initiates Fogging Campaign
The Panchkula municipal corporation (MC) is set to launch a ward-by-ward fogging campaign on Thursday to mitigate the increased risk of vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria, ahead of the monsoon arrival expected around June 25. Municipal commissioner Vinay Kumar confirmed that a structured deployment schedule has been finalized to cover all sectors, supported by the procurement of 10 new fogging machines ordered last year.
To strictly enforce public health compliance, the civic body is also expected to initiate a punitive campaign targeting households with stagnant water. Municipal health teams will conduct door-to-door inspections of coolers, flowerpots, overhead tanks, and pools, while simultaneously running awareness programs on mosquito eradication.
The move follows concerns raised by councillor Bharat Hiteshi, who pointed out that health personnel frequently discover breeding grounds at identical locations every year but lack direct enforcement powers. Suggesting a permanent collaborative solution, Hiteshi stated, “If there is a repeat or a regular violator, then challaning should be started against them. Since the challan power is with the MC, they should take action to ensure larva cases are not found.”
Sanitation Squads Deployed
In tandem with the chemical fogging and inspection sweeps, the corporation has deployed specialized sanitation squads across all wards. These teams are tasked with clearing dense overgrowth, cutting away wild bushes, and eliminating localized water accumulation spots, removing the primary natural habitats where mosquitoes breed.
